I have a video an AMG CLK55 doing a tight figure eight exercise at a driving event. I sent it to CRRobert so he could see how much the tires rolled onto the sidewall under heavy cornering.

[/quote]Yeah, I am sure that it was the same case with mine, the rims close to the ground, and with 8 - 20 minute track sessions, probably spend quite a bit of time on the outer edge of the tire.

CR, I just tuned into this thread. Reminds me of my track day. Wish I had pictures of my tires. There were actually little drops of rubber solidified on the tread. The 540 driver looked like he had a couple of bad turns pretty close together. Was he six speed? I wonder if he missed a shift or just lost a little stability.
At any rate that is sheer fun. Thanks for sharing the movie. Kudos to those instructors, too. I'd like to borrow your car and do it again.

Once I get back home, I will try to add a couple other vids up for people to download.
Yeah after I came into the pits, there were pieces of rubber on mine also, and they would partially embed some of the sand and gravel. Really sticky.
The 540i was a 6 speed, but I don't think he had the line very well, I was constantly catching him both days. I was the only one in the group that was signed off so i did not have to have an instructor in the car with me on the last run because I was pretty consitent with the lines. What a difference it makes when you hit the lines smoothly, you can reallymake up time and pick up speed.
Maybe you can join me at the next track event. You will just need to pay for some new tires.
