The most recent research I can find suggests that the UK is around average for car taxation within Europe, with the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark and Ireland all having higher tax and the likes of Spain and Luxembourg lower tax.

What is apparent is that the UK skews its taxation towards car use (i.e. fuel tax) rather than ownership. Although it's perhaps a rather blunt instrument, this approach would seem to be relatively effective in addressing the issue of climate change. It's certainly one of the reasons I swapped my M6 (11mpg around town, <200mile range) for a 535d (28mpg around town, >400 mile range).

AS MUCH AS I WANT TO BELIEVE YOU, I doubt any nation around the world is like here? The taxation is just too revolting, record numbers of people are now leaving because of UNCONTROLABLE AMOUNT OF CRIME, seems to be the top reason why almost 290,000 people left UK last year.

This year and years to come, more and more people are expected to leave, i myself would like to go to the land of Opportunity Canada, were roads are straight, no police to slow you down and almost free price on fuel, i bet insurance is cheap too.

I wish anyway!!!

wow that alot.
in HK itis about $60us for speeding and 3 points, (the drive licence has 15 points) 1st time you can't drive for 3 months then 2nd time 1 year ban

For more than 60 kmh over the limit, in case they catch you for 2 times in 2 years, bye bye licence plate .
New law approved yesterday

Imho there is a new policy by EU that aims to reduce deaths on roads .
Anyway, they are mad ...

COMPLAIN I WILL, You come and try to live here, its good for scroungers that get free homes and money, but people like me have to earn money work extremely hard so my family can eat and survive,

It's the same here .
And imho in France and Germany too : immigrants get everything for free .

Do you want to laugh ?

The 90% of the burglaries, in Italy, came from Romanians . I'm not joking, there was a TV program on the first channel the day before yesterday with data by justice office .
Girls raped .. By romanians too .

Recently the European Community approved a law that let the States to *EXPEL* poor European Citizens and who commit also little crimes .
A law approved intentionally to expel romanians, gipsy etc.

And it is very impressive, because the first reason of EU establishment is that people could travel around the continent without ID cards, frontiers, borders, etc. : we have a "european citizenship" indeed .

We have 150k Romanians and they are arriving more, more and more
In 2007 came the Romania and 6 months later this new legislative measure

Fuel prices in Canada are just over half the current UK prices. Of course, it helps that Canada has very large oil reserves and is a large producer of petroleum. And of course, in both the USA and Canada there is significant subsidisation of the motorist.

Incidentally, I was driving in Canada 2 weeks ago (rather nasty Chrysler Sebring, unfortunately) and the roads weren't all straight (at least not in British Columbia) and I did see some traffic police. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Incidentally, I'd be interested to see your sources for "UNCONTROLABLE AMOUNT OF CRIME". All the recent stats suggest that crime shows a mixed picture in recent years, with some offence categories falling and others showing a small increase.

AlexFW, - I hear how you feel, and well i sympathise with you the immigrant problem is getting out of control. Romanians, i didnt know they caused that much trouble, i thought that they were good Christian people, and not like the others. Shame to hear it my friend.

BLACKCAT - Im shocked to hear that there is road police in Canada, i thought no police and easy straight traffic free roads over there. maybe in the cityies?

In Romania, from what I heard, there are some ethnic groups ... Some good and 4 mln of gipsy that commit crimes .
For example you have a nice house, the garden, the wall ... A gang of romanians jump it and ... They even murder, sometimes .

"the others" is a heavier problem, you are right . But if I can't walk tranquilly in the city .. It's not so funny .
Bye!

Why would anyone want easy straight roads? Particularly a BMW driver? Even driving an appalling Sebring Convertible, the road from Nanaimo to Tofino across Vancouver Island was an entertaining, twisty switchback with plenty of challenges. Exactly what a good driver relishes.

+1 should try the HK road very twisty switchback with plenty of challenges just like your 1 but better cos they are very narow road. But for a e60 itis a bit big to drive very fast, that why I have the S2000 for these kind of roads, much faster.

straight roads are only for olf people that can not drive fast
