Indeed, St. Maarten (TNCM) has special short field operations procedures due to mountainous terrain. Pilots require the so called "Special Pilot in Command Qualification Airport". It's quite a sight.

It's very real. Mrs. MacSid and I honeymooned in St Maarten and the Sunset Beach Bar (which is covered by the KLM 747's tail in the pic above) quickly became our favourite hangout. Here's some of our pics ...
