My Ride: 2008 550I LOADED, all options except HUD and NV
Okay, so today they are having the big send off for Michael Jackson. I understand he was loved by many and they want to mourn his passing. That said, did anyone else notice that the City of LA will spend $4 million on this memorial, but they couldn't muster $2 million for a Lakers victory parade (Lakers and sponsors paid for it). At the same time teachers are getting laid off, police are getting their hours cut, and essential services are being trimmed. And yet they still find the cash to spend on a funeral? Huh? Am I missing something? Did the city as a whole win the Mega Millions or something? How many more teachers are going to be laid off because MJ "needed a send off"? How many fewer cops will there be on the streets? Just wondering.

I can't get over the freeway closures for the motorcade!! 
I have heard though that the city of Los Angeles will be charging the estate of Michael Jackson and or AEG for the extensive overtime etc. that will be incurred during this day-long sendoff for the king of pop!

Who ever said our priorities were straight? In our country and many others, sooooo much attention and resources are paid and given in the name of entertainment. Considering this is LA we are talking about, I didnt expect anything less...
Remember, this with authority over this kinda stuff are elected right!? So, if the residents are that enraged than let their vote do the talking...

wow, that ssounds crazy.. and kinda messed up... hope nobodys commute gets blocked by this mess

Well, the Staples center in right in Downtown, so thousands of people got their commutes screwed by this (luckily I work in OC, so didn't bother me other than the LA county taxes I pay for such foolishness)

I hear you. Frankly, the cult of celebrity is out of control.
Although, the Federal Government is no better when in comes to waste. No offense to anyone in the military, but do we really need the Blue Angels? How do they benefit me as a citizen? Are they necessary for defense? Do we really need military fly-overs at the Super Bowl or some NASCAR race? How much does that cost every year?
