i guess that is possible. if i am going to drive my car in such a way that i might crash it in a controlled environment where i have signed away my insurance claim rights, i would want my airbags disabled. when i fix the car that is two grand or so per bag i am saving when i pay to fix my car out of pocket.
Exactly!

What's beyond me is why the fvck would anyone race an S-Type

I'd say it was quite the reverse - the car seemed to hold up very well.
+1

Not wearing helments when racing like that is pretty stupid. The occupants are lucky that the Jag protected them so well.

Fine then. Run to your local dealer and order one today.

My comment was based on the lack of airbag deployments (side airbags in particular)

Smart airbags only deploy when needed - they weren't here, so they didn't deploy. The car operated exactly as designed. Both occupants were fine, and the airbags not deploying significantly reduced the repair cost (assuming the car was repairable).

+1000 - Ins't that basically a Ford Taurus? The X-type = Mondeo, S-Type = Taurus, why race either of them? Only NASCAR races the taurus and not even them anymore.

Agreed. But when a car rolls over like that, there should be side airbag deployments to prevent the occupants from hitting the door windows or the B pillar. Those guys were lucky that the side wall stopped further rolling. And they were able to anticipate what was coming and braced themselves accordingly. As you can see, I don't give too much credits to Jaguar at all. But that's me.

True, but that's assuming the car CAME with side airbags. We have to remember, not all cars do, even in my MY it was optional (an option mine thankfully came with).

Some of you are missing two pretty important points.

1) The S-Type is a decent handling car (it's built on essentially the same chassis as the new XF, which also acquits itself well in the handling department)

2) This was clearly a track novice behind the wheel. A novice can and will spin any car. Not a lot of point criticizing the car when the primary cause of the accident here was driver error. The guy just overcooked it heading in to the corner.
