Well you need to make sure your mobo supports SATA2 because you don't want that to be your limiting factor in terms of consistent transfer rates. The access time you'll definitely see a performance increase regardless of what ver. SATA you have.

I'm running

Core i7 920
EVGA E758
12 GB DDR3

Yes I did, but I was curious to know what your setup was.
I got sucked into the useless AMD socket F board with dual fx 76's. It worked fine for all of about 6 months, then slowly started fading on me. My lan controller just took a poop, so It looks like its time for another upgrade.

That is actually the setup I was looking to buy. I've always been an AMD guy, but the i7's are way to legit not to try.

You're running three 4 gig sticks of ram?! that must have cost you more than your i7 920.

hmmmmm this could be dangerous. I thought the E758 only had three dimms.
I might as well go big or go home right?
12 gigs it is. haha

You probably don't need 12 GB. 6GB will probably suffice unless you're doing something crazy. Also bing.com if you go to their shopping site offers I believe a 2.5% newegg rebate

For those who -haven't- bought SSD drives yet, pay attention.

You -REALLY- want TRIM support. The X-25 G1 drives won't ever have this. The X-25 G2 drives -will-.

I actually run 6GB main mem and then an additional 4GB as Readyboost (a high speed USB thumb). Windows 7 can use multiple Readyboost volumes, and now supports exFAT. My machine operates so fast it's criminal.

Here is the exact problem:

consumers who already purchased the new 34nm SSDs may experience data corruption when adding, deleting, or modifying the drive's password in the system BIOS
That doesn't mean they won't fix it very quickly with a firmware update, and doesn't mean it will now or after the update slow down the performance of the G2. Compared to G1 the new Intel SSDs are quite a bit faster, so in a way buying a G1 now means buying yesterday's technology.
