Really? The folks at AppleCare said that Apple "could not restore" any files that weren't purchased from iTunes. They said this was by choice and that they couldn't legally do it... also I have iTunes 7.2 and can't find the restore anywhere there.... where did you find this?

There are a few programs out there that work well. I've used PodWorks in the past with great results.

iTunes will let you make backup copies that you can restore from but I don't think it will let you use the library on your iPod as a backup.

Senuti and Podworks are great for putting your library on multiple computers. You may authorize up to five computers to use your library.

Right in my case the HD on the MacBook DIED! So Senuti was what I found... really good program!

Didn't i also see that VISTA can corrupt an iPod? I think on removal if I remember correctly.
