Gentlemen:

Please "lighten up" on Alan Riley. I have known him personally since 1998 and I can assure you that everyone of you would love to have him as a brother or a son (depending on your age).

He performs a valuable service for all BMW enthusiasts and it's just a damn shame that there are so many idiots who go out of their way to try to ruin a good thing.

Alan is not the problem--it's the idiots.

My $0.02. YMMV

Mr. Meloan: It's possible we may have met. I used to live in northern VA and participated in several chapter events; maybe it was a drivers school. Anyway, the mods over there have taken an incredible amount of cr*p from the participants there. I feel bad for anyone having to take that amount of grief. I do agree with Rudy that the software is part of the problem. There are idiots there, to be sure, but things are made easy for them.

Respectfully,

Sam

When you check the Nick's and IP's from the trolls you will find out that they are:
a ) non-bmw owners trolling other boards too, or
b ) e39-owners.
THAT is VERY SAD !

I am glad I found this board right here !!!

I agree with you Fred that the real problem is not Alan personally, but rather the idiot trolls.

As nice as Alan probably is, it's clear to me that his approach to solving his problems over there is a backward one. He has to ask people to post the trolls names? A real moderator would know who they are. He's also a bit stubborn about the software he uses on his boards. I asked him about it once and he defended it as superior to the style of software that is used on most other boards, including this one. If he is to continue to provide what was once a valuable service to the E60 community, he either needs to more actively moderate and/or upgrade his software.

Again, I don't know him personally and I'm sure he's a great guy, I just don't exactly agree with how he chooses to handle his problem.

Oh, I almost forgot:

When I posted there, I always was respectful and tried to be helpful in my posts. I never participated in any troll posts -- I simply ignored them. One day, when things got really bad and I discovered a person spoofing his name to look like someone else was posting, I reported it to Alan (or whomever gets the messages to the "administrator") and publicly posted a message on the forum exposing this person's tactics.

What ended up happening? The administrator disabled my ability to post there. WTF? Again, an active moderator would have known that I wasn't the problem, others were. Alan now says, "I don't want to have to babysit this board every day all year long." Well by golly if you're going to have a busy and successful internet forum, you or someone else better be doing exactly that!

That is pretty bad if you have E39 owners posing as E60 owners.
I hate posers.

Having been part of the RF E39 board before beeing on the E60 I will tell you that the biggest problem there is the e39 previous owners / and owners that are either frustrated by the new model, because they can t afford it or don t truly like it and feel deep down inside like has been. Very sad and a lots of negative energy there!

I guess with time they will either agree or let go...

I'm getting only positive remarks and appreciative glances from everybody on the look of my E60.

Change is difficult for many people...I nerver had a problem with it. I make my own opinion and live with it...The more I look at it the more beautiful I think this car is!

Happy to have moved here! RF is not even a bookmark on my PC anymore
