I want to get a foreign film I saw in class on DVD (La Haine). I live in the US, and they don't make this film on DVD for the US (Region 1). How do I play this DVD which is in Region 2 format on my DVD Player. I have an XBOX 360...and I don't think that will do it. Any ideas of what i can do?
Thanks!

If he owns the DVD I don't think it's a problem.

You might have better luck getting a program like DVD Shrink (for PC) or MTR (for the Mac) to make a backup copy of the DVD sans region code. That is if you can play it on your PC. Many PC DVD drives will let you reset it's region code a few times before they lock out.

I know for playstation they sell a DVD to make it region free - perhaps it exists for the xbox

I bought a cheap dvd player (29.99 USD) in the USA to play the dvds I buy in the usa. No hassle, and it always works - perhaps you can buy a cheap Euro dvd player - of course only an option if you plan to have a lot of those

Chances are that region-2 dvd is in PAL format and here in U.S, region-1 we use NTSC.

You have couple of choices as to what you can do:

1. You can buy a multi region DVD player from ebay from around $50-$250 and you'll be able to play any region dvd.

2. You can buy a video converting software that you can install in you computer that would convert PAL to NTSC. The one that is recommended is "Canopus Procoder 2", which will cost you around $450.00 and time to convert and to burn on a DVD with dvd burning software.

3. Another idea is to hook-up your computer to your TV and play it through your computer's dvd player and it should work just fine.

Good Luck..

Or find someone with a Mac and download a free program. There maybe other free programs that do the same for the PC (or Linux).

$450 will also buy lots of multi region DVD players.

There are DVD players that can be made region free simply using the remote. I bought a DVD player 2 months ago that is NTSC/PAL multi region and multi voltage. Being an American living in Germany can have some downfalls. I like movies from all over and have regions 1,2,3,4, and 6.
My DVD player cost me 30 US dollars and it is made by Colby. There is no reason to download programs or buy programs just to convert. If you need any help let me know. I have been dealing with these problems for 5 years now. All my DVD players at home are NTSC/PAL and multi region.

DVD players they sell in HK can play any DVD from any region, you might want to get one here if you have a source.
