Hey DAS, where is your E60 ?

Well, I'd been planning for a couple of years that the next generation 5 Series was going to be my first new car. I assumed that the second that E60 started shipping, I'd order one. Well, a few things conspired to make me delay a little bit...
First of all, I knew I'd regret it if I didn't get the 545i 6-speed (vs 530i), and that was delayed a bit after launch.
Next, I thought, if I'm ordering this car new, there is absolutely no way I would get it without navigation and HUD...those are the kind of things that make this car sweet, in my opinion.
But the real kicker was I simply didn't expect the 545 with all the options I want (Nav, HUD, ACC, PDC, Logic7, cold weather package, etc.) to be so expensive compared to the E39 540i 6-speed! And on top of it, there were definitely some issues early on with some of the "high tech" options. I've kept my eye on things, and in fact just this last week I was thinking about taking the plunge again...I configured a 545i 6-speed pretty much how I wanted it, and was about to go to the dealer. Problem is, even though I can "afford" it, I simply can't justify that much money to myself...yet. So I think, hey, what's wrong with getting a used E60 in a year or two?
Well, nothing, really...except for the fact that finding one the color I want, with all the options I want, will likely be almost impossible. With E39, the only option I really cared about was nav. What are the chances of easily finding a used E60 545i, for a reasonable price, with Nav, HUD, ACC, PDC, Logic7, cold weather, etc.? So then, I thought, well, what about a 2001-2003 E39 M5? I definitely wouldn't complain about that...and I wouldn't constantly be kicking myself for not having options I want since the E39 M5 pretty much automatically has every E39 option possible...it's just a matter of finding the right color. And, of course, decent 2001-2002 E39 M5s can be had for $40000 to $45000...a big difference from a new E60 545i 6-speed. In fact, I've found E39 M5s with about 40000 miles with 6 year/100000 mile warranties for around $40000...
I guess the bottom line is, I don't know what I'm going to do. Realistically, I'll probably simply wait for MY2005, and give it another go. I can't see myself not ending up with an E60 sooner or later here...it will just be a little later than I originally planned.

iceman, you are more than welcome. most of the people only know "aloha", not "mahalo". you are one local bradah (brother) already .
good to hear you'll do some island hopping. otherwise three weeks stuck in the same island? you'll really make me think that you are filming one of those "survivor" tv things ?
btw, prepare a "wish list" of what do you want to do and where do you want to go. so that i can "help" you a little better .

das, what would be your color choice?
It's likely that the used E60 you're hoping to find will be owned by one of the current (or future) members of this forum!

das - have you considered ED? I did it for the fun of it, but I also saved a bunch of money.
ED list is almost $4,000 off US list. I got another $2,200 off from my dealer and a $1,000 rebate through BMW CCA. All-in-all, I got the car for about $7,000 off US list. It's the first time I felt as though I got a "deal" on a BMW!
Of course, I had enough miles to pay for airfare and hotels. Obviously, that makes a big difference.

We'll be sponsoring FAA (Forum Addicts Anonymous) meetings soon. I don't know if we can find a building big enough to house everyone though!
