I know that this 1 is a 3er but I think they have got this wrong saying BMW are heavy.
I dont think the E60 is heavy at all, in fact itis the lightest of them all in the same class.,
I think Greenpeace can not find a lighter car than the E60 under 1600kg
A6, E-class no way

It may be the disguised prototype of the E90 M3....they decided to use pig's ears, snout and white tape as the disguise instead of the usual black tape and fake plastic panels.

I thought the new BMW kidney grill design was going to be wide and rectangular, but I guess I was wrong

Actually: No!

What could be better than making this world a better place?

If you get into the details you'll find out, that they have those actions not just at the BMW HQ. And they are right!
The car manufacturers are promising for years that they will built better cars, more environment friendly. But all they do is nonsense.
The H7... A sooooooooooooo "green" concept. Serious? Never! The process of making the H7 needs waaaaaaaay more energy than driving on regular fuel. And if you want to build a "green" car, why put it in a 12 cylinder only?
Besides the H7 concept, when you look at the cars that are built by car manufacturers today, and then compare it with the past... Today we need more fuel.
And cars got bigger and bigger, and heavier than ever.
Concepts like using so much AL on the E60 and others is a success of a lot of campaigns by environmentalists, also by Greenpeace.
And finally, there is a real three liter car (3L/100Km) out there, it's the Greenpeace concept SmILE, based on a Renault Twingo. And Renault itself has developed such a car... and placed it in a museum.
Todays cars are bigger and heavier than ever.

Those Greenpeace actions are reminding the industry on what they promised and don't deliver.

A 645ci weighs 1615 Kg . A 520i less than 1600 kg .

My 545i weighs 150 kg less than the A6 4.2!!

Dont get me started on Greenpeace..... The car manufacturers are only building what the buyers want.

I agree with Iceman.

We have no alternative now from BMW! Toyota/Lexus/Honda have made progress on hybrid and the Tesla sports car is a great idea - why not BMW? I for one would buy a hybrid or low-emission diesel BMW if available.

Weight is another problem that hurts fuel economy and increases emissions. I am for airbags and some other safety features that add weight, but so many extras are not "necessary", but fjwagner is right about people expecting these extras. If the U.S. government really wanted to address the environment, they could tax vehicles based on greenhouse emissions (like a gas guzzler tax), which would cause many consumers to demand alternatives.

I strongly disagree with you!

I am the perfect example: I WANT a car like my E60. With all the gadgets and HP! But I also want a car that is good for the environment.
BMW (and ANY other car manufacturer) is NOT building it!
But they could, if they just want to...
