hey guys I finally bought an SLR camera.

I had two choices in mind since they were both the same price
Nikon D300
Canon Rebel XS

I originally went in to buy the Canon. But I went we the Nikon because the guy explained that Nikon has an info feature from the camera itself that explains what each button is, and what is used for to better the picture. I've used it and is really helpful.

Now I need help from you guys, if any of you guys has experince with SLR plz pitch in. I would like to make HDR shots. I have a program called Photomatix, dont know if its any good. Is there any SLR photograph forums where I can gather more help and knowledge?

Here are some pics:

Turn off the flash ahhhhh

I recommend a 50mm 1.8 lens. Works well with low light

Get an external flash that can be angle adjusted. My wife uses this alot when she takes pics.

Also, there are SD cards that can be configured to transmit the photos via wi-fi from your camera to your computer as soon as you take them.

I assume you got the Nikon D3000 not the D300(about 1500 fo the body). Like what was said before get a external flash NEVER used the on board flash pure junk!

For the D3000 there is not a bracketing feature so if you want to do HDR you will have to do it manualy, ie take a picture change settings take a picture, change settings. There are programs out that that will fake an HDR but to do a real one you need mulitiple pictures. But i am not the greatest at HDR so i would get some other opinions.

Also the D3000 does not have a built in focus motor so any lens you buy MUST say AF-S on them. I would recomend geting the Nikon 35mm 1.8 AF-s lens I picked mine up for about 200 bucks.

The best photo forum i have found is www.thephotoforum.com There is lots of stuff out there. GL and happy shooting!

Ahem! Excuse me but even though i'm not totally up to date with SD cards as i use CF cards ( Canon guy) but isn't there wi-fi a camera option or add-on and not a card feature?!

Thanks for the help guys. Im check that forum out. But My real question is if I made a good choice by going with the Nikon over the Canon, because I can still return it.

NIKON D3000

CANON EOS Rebel XS

Another good place to visit! The Canon has live view the Nikon Doesn't, the Nikon has better ISO/EV levels and a 3 inch screen vrs 2.5 for the Canon otherwise they are pretty much the same camera. I love Nikon Glass so i would stick with the Nikon but JohnPhotography would lean towards Canon it is really a preference thing.

You need to ask yourself a few questions: Is this all the camera I will ever need, or are you like most and will want the best of the best later and this is just a starter camera? If you are going to want to upgrade your camera later then look at the expensive cameras now and whichever on you like buy that brand. The reason i say this is because the camera's are the cheap part of the equipment (i have 2k in cameras D300/D60 and 10k+ in lenses). So whatever system you buy into it tends to railroad you into that system for life once you start buying the expensive lenses. I am sure John would say the same.

A D60/D40 would probably have worked for you as well. If you keep the Nikon get a 55-200mm VR AF-S lens (about 200 bucks) it's light and tack sharp then get a 35mm AF-S VR and your camera should have came with a 18-55mm VR lens! Those three lenses will do a lot and keep you busy. Once you master those you will be ready to step up to a better camera and alot more expensive glass =)

Pic bellow was taken with a D60 55-200mm lens. (i have high res pics too if you want to see up close)
