Something like this happened to me recently, although there was no racing involved. And here goes:
I was making a right turn on a one way narrow street and after i just made the right turn a friend of mine said to me that we shouldn't have taken that road but the next one. I was like Crap man you should have told me earlier! I see also that in front of my car, there was another car slowly creeping towards me obviously going in on the opposite direction (remember it was a one way road and i was on the correct way). So i start to back away (knowingly and shamefully admit backing away in the junction) but it was late at night and i said oh well i'll jut back away a few meters and take the next road on the right. In that instant the cops show off, and pull over next to our cars and i was thinking: Fuck i'm screwd. For this they'll take my license away (reversing into a junction). But as the cops get out of the car vigorously, i was already preparing my excuse, reaching for my papers and so on...but they suddenly in the last second before i just pulled down the windows, they went for the car in front of me who wanted to enter the junction but on the wrong way. I instantly realised that they thought that the car forced me to back off into the junction and they really pulled him over with all the noise in the hell.
I quickly drove away admittedly with some remorse. So in a way it's like your story but with a different twist.

when i had my e36 328is i remember i was driving by astoria park one night right behind some pickup truck that was going like 4 mph and when he finally pulled over i just floored it to 60 and to my luck there was a cop right behind me pulled me over threatened to give me like ten different tickets i gave him a pba card and apologized saying i dont normally do that he lectured me and said that he remembers my car and if he catches me doing speeding even 1 mph over the speedlimit hes gonna write me a nice ticket so yeaa god was on my side i learned my lesson

i try to stay away from speeding [laughs] who am i kidding i been lucky only have gotten one speeding ticket in pennsylvania on my way to dorney park going 120 in my first car which was 2 door honda civic tuned to the max damn that thing use to fly =] damn i miss that thing now! =/
