Mark Spitz is in Detroit, per an interview with him. They didn't say what he was doing , career wise. Unfortunately, the US IOC didn't get Spitz any tickets, etc to attend the games or he would have. He did seem very appreciative and supportive of Phelps going after the record (interviewed right after matching the 7 gold). It is hard to compare the two being such different ages, swimsuit tech, level of competitition, training methods, etc. Per NBC, Spitz did it with fewer strokes but more varied distances. Phelps is unique in doing all 4 strokes. I believe Phelps did more races in fewer days to achieve the 8 wins. Combined with the goggle issues, close calls, and team help, it truely is an amazing feat. One that few persons could ever dream of, let alone accomplish.
