Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that Firestone is like the generic for Bridgestone tires.

Does Michellin have a generic.

Yep - Michelin owns BF Goodrich, Uniroyal and a couple of others.

Thanks. Are these as good as Michellin? What would be the "generic/cheap" equivalent of Michellin PS2?

Don't know much about Uniroyal but there's nothing wrong with BF Goodrich. That said, I'd probably look at a good Bridgestone (say the RE050A or even the new RE-11 if it is available in your sizes) or a premium Goodyear (say the Eagle F1 GS-D3 or F1 Assymetric) if I were you. Cheaper than the PS2 and essentially just as capable if not more so in some cases. I've owned the PS2 before (they are an OEM on my 911) and it's a solid tire but it's really no better than the high end tires from the other premium brands.

I used to have the PS2 and then like a fool, just to save a few dollars, I got the Michellin pilot Sport A/S Plus. Now the damn car is tramlining all over the place like it used to with the Pirelli Nero Zero whatever.

Nothing like the soft rubber PS2.

If you liked the PS2, you may be better off getting what you know. The PS2 is a good tire - my point was really that you can get tires which are just as good (and arguably better) for less than the cost of the PS2. My own experience with the PS2 on my 997 is that it can struggle a little for grip, it tends to breaks loose before other competing tires and it can quickly get noisy as it wears. Not to say it's a bad tire, these things are all relative and we're still talking about solid performance, but I think you can get better bang for the buck elsewhere.
