Question

When I read the healdlines today, I was shocked!! Did not think they would go thru with it...well, I know hardship is on our backyard these days...
<H2 itxtvisited="1">More than 200,000 employees affected; some work without pay to keep upSACRAMENTO, Calif. - California's first-ever furloughs began Friday with more than 200,000 state workers expected to stay home without pay amid the state's fiscal crisis.

Among the offices forced to close Friday were the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Consumer Affairs. The governor's Office of Emergency Services also was dark as part of the cash-saving move ordered by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Critical and revenue-generating agencies remained open, including fire stations, parks and employment centers that process unemployment insurance claims. California's unemployment rate is 9.3 percent, a 15-year high.

Doors to about 180 DMV offices were locked Friday. Some people said the state gave little notice to the public about the furloughs, which will continue on the first and third Fridays of each month through June 2010

Our state is very under budgeted these days, and this is supposed to help. It isn't delicate, but it beats being fired!

Agreed, I guess people were annoyed with the fact that they did not communicate properly and several people were showing up at these offices and the doors were closed. I am sure that CA is not alone and I won't be surprised if other states will follow...

PS: glad to hear from you and all went well with your surgery
