I think you are dead on and I agree 100%. F1 is nothing if it's not an an engineering showcase where the manufacturers - BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari, Honda, Toyota etc - are pitching themselves and their engineering capabilities against each other in an unbelievably competitive environment. Take that away and I'd fully expect the top manufacturers would walk, and I wouldn't blame them if they did. I don't think this will happen, but if it does then it kills F1.
A single engine didn't kill Indy but Indy never was about production manufacturers competiting. I think it would really hurt F1.

PS: There are many other factors why Indy lost popularity but its slowly gaining that back.

Uhmmm no. In fact i would react the same. It's a pity that we already have only one tire manufacturer in a pure competitive sport. Think of it this way: Michelin said they will not even bid for the spot of the sole provider of tires because in their philosophy this is all about competition and always bettering yourself. If there is no competition how can exist real improvement?!?

The same with the engines. If FIA will turn F1 slowly into a mono marque competition that would ruin everything about this pinnacle of motor sport, not to mention history of competition between brands. I say mono marque because we already have only ONE tire provider, only ONE ECU provider and if the engines go monopoly than what's the point of the competition? Also there will clearly be no more show.

F1 cars are already so close to one another that on more than 60 maybe even 70% of the tracks in the calendar it's very very hard to find good overtaking spots (and i'm not talking here Ferrari vs Force India).

Anyway bottom line for me is that if FIA decides to kill F1 in 2010 then i will for sure stop watching. Enough is enough already!
My point was that Ferrari always complain when the rules, any rules, don't favor what's best for them and screw everybody else. I see your point, but that was not to what I was referring. IMHO the sport already is rife with corruption and the lion's share of that at the hands of Ferrari. The stewards and/or race control officials always seem to look the other way for the red cars and penalize the rest. It's not fair, it never has been, and since Ferrari has so much cash and backroom influence, I doubt this will change. Don't fret, Ferrari will get their way, and F1 will back to "normal" for 2010.

I will still watch it even if itis boring to watch.
I will suport my man Hamilton
If it dose go ahead with the same engines, then Hamilton will beat Schumacher record of wins.

I agree 100%. I am not a Ferrari supporter, but I fully back their statement. Someone has to stop this madness. I will never watch Formula 1 again if they start passing regulations of this sort.

I always watch the big one, the Indy 500. There is a lot of tradition and pagentry having been run for almost 100 years (since 1911). Indy is a 2 1/2 mile rectangle. They run 220-230mph foot to the floor most of the lap sometimes 3 wide. Half the other races are on ovals like Nascar, the others are on street courses. Most of the news centers on Danica Patrick, especially when she was a rookie and almost won the Indy 500. She finally won a race this year and no longer headlines every race.

Here is a link to a recent photo finish, never seen in F1 Chicagoland Indy Race and the Indy 500 highlights: Indy 500

That's awesome - thanks for posting. I was at Indy for the 06 Grand Prix (and 2007 too) but I never saw this happen. I missed the first day of the weekend (the Thursday) flying in from San Jose. The safety cars and medical cars did do some flying laps though, and the engine note on those things is incredible. They're very fast cars.

Very impressive. I've been to several GPs in recent years, including the 2006 Indy race, but did not see this event. I've always been impressed with the speed and skill of the Safety Car drivers. Thanks for sharing!
