"Kekri" is an ancient pagan harvesting festival that was celebrated in Finland in the past. Nowadays it's a recollection of this old habit, and the burning of Kekri buck is the most waited event in it.

This night was the Kekri night, and I, my girlfriend, my sister and her two kids (3 and 6 years) went out to downtown to see the burning. The weather was nice, -8?C / 18?F and some fog was arising from the Kajaani river that runs through our town. Several hundreds of people (maybe over a thousand) were gathered on the shores to watch a dance and light show on Kajaani castle ruins and the burning of Kekri buck.

Here are few pics of natives enjoying the night together .

Six year old Noora was sitting on my shoulders so it was a bit hard to take pictures !

Reminds me of the Up Helly Aa festival that takes place each year in the Shetland Islands (where I spent much of my childhood). Each year, they build a Norse Longship and after a flame torchlight procession (in Viking costume) through the streets of Lerwick, they throw in the torches and burn the longship.

I took part in a few of these when I was a kid.

Here are some pics:

You can't beat a good think, especially a huge one. I had a problem yesterday that I needed to troubleshoot, it required a massive think.
