Any thought on this guys?

How are Porsche 911 Turbo S prices in the US etc? As you can see, in Australia, it costs AUD$423,300. And don't think that the Aussie dollar is cheap because it ain't... currently it's AUD$1.00 = US$0.87

But, with AUD$423,300, you can't buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini or Aston Martin DBS... so I guess it's bang for buck...

The Turbo S will be 160K in the US before tax and options. It does come with PDK, ceramic brakes, active engine mounts and torque vectoring but in true Porsche style most everything else will be extra and will be moderately to outrageously expensive. The 911 Turbo remains one of the best bangs for the buck there is - it's the only one of the cars on your list you could use (or would trust to use) as a daily driver, and the 911 in general is basically bulletproof. You can, quite literally, beat these cars to within an inch of their life on the track and they will soak up all of the punishment you can administer without complaint. And then take you home. The Turbo S, of course, in true Spinal Tap style, simply takes the 911 Turbo and turns things up to 11. And that, my friend, is no bad thing.

Hey

Nice...and i assume they're leaving the room for a 550 bhp GT2.

Just a side note though.... the car and the GT2 especially will get awfully close in terms of price to the Ferrari 458 Italia, and in that case i don't know if i would choose the Porsche.

160k base? daaaaamn! like bettermakeway said, with options thats very close to 458 italia territory. i know which id rather have!!!

porsches are great and all but why does porsche nickel and dime their customers so much?!?! i tried pricing a few cars out and they completely rip you off with options, ie; $700 for bluetooth? a 100K car doesnt have bluetooth standard???? heck, a $15K honda has bluetooth standard. its no wonder porsche is the most profitable car company in the world.

You won't get a 458 Italia for anything close to 160K.... You'll be looking at well over 200K+ for a car with few options. Mind you, they're not comparable and they don't compete. No one will buy a 458 as a daily driver and I suspect very few will ever get taken to the track and driven hard. By comparison, the 997 can be (and is) used everyday, it can be tracked very hard, and it won't break. Keep in mind the S does PCCB (an 8K option and a 15K retrofit) as standard plus PDK and other higher end equipment already baked in so really it's more of a well optioned Turbo with more power and torque.

Agree on the nickel and dime point, though... My close to 110K (MSRP) car had no bluetooth, and I even had to pay extra for floormats...

Turbo S is sellin for 173K Euro VAT included as per Porsche Germany website. The GT2 is (still?) selling for 189K Euro, so it's safe to assume that 997.2 GT2 will be close to 200K. That's 458 Italia territory (give or take 20K)
