The point is to communicate. People have varying degrees of English proficiency and education. Also, people put less editing into a forum response since it's not a formal document. I try to be correct, but do miss a word or have a typo on occasion. I would not think a reasonably educated person should judge me on that. If they do, they can kiss my ass while they are at it.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Overall, I agree with you Cal. However, there are some simple and funny uses....like break vs brake. HAHA...I mean, even typing quickly, one should know these are 2 completely different words and uses. Only thing in common is that they sound the same Problem is, spell check will never catch it!

Its all in fun...I try to catch and edit my mistakes, but like you said, this is a forum, and not a formal document!

2) petrol not gas
3) manual gearbox not stick shift
4) tyre not tire
5) bumper not fender
6) boot not trunk
7) discs not rotors

Exactly what I had in mind. I was thinking what about our UK folks? We won't even mention how to properly pronounce schedule

also isn't muffler a slang word for a certain part of the female anatomy in the UK?

That should go for punctuation, too. For example, in your statements 3 and 4, you have an illegal use of a comma before the parenthesis. If you did not have the parenthesis, you would not be closing your statements with ",." and therefore it is wrong. Not nitpicking; I'm just saying......
lmao yeah some people tend to say breaks and not brakes lol this does not bother me though

I knew with complete certainty that there would be at least one person who would nitpick my post to the Nth degree to discredit or nullify my point. However, it is with great happiness that I denounce thee, for my post was about grammar and not punctuation!

Mike, this thread was started by a self-labeled "elitist prick." He's concerned about grammar, but demonstrates complete ignorance of proper punctuation. I doubt he paid anywhere close to $60K for his e60. He's an elitist in his own mind. Prior to you joining, one of his threads, supposedly about a university paper on race issues, was removed after he belittled and mocked several respected members of this forum. Then he tried to save face by saying it was all over a $10 bet with a co-worker. Yeah, big money for an "elitist."

I speak Spanish fluently, but more than likely make mistakes comparable to "break" vs. "brake." I try to speak a little Swahili, Thai, Portugese, and French, all horribly, but when I am traveling, people generally tend to appreciate that I try. Therefore, I sympathyze with others doing the same in English. There's no room for ethnocentrism on an international forum.

This thread is worthless.
