Without knowing more about what you want/need and price I would say a Nikon D2X but I'm also guessing $5000 for a body might be more than you want/need to spend. Try http://www.dpreview.com for some good info.

Uhhh, I thought this was a car forum? Why are you asking about digital cameras? I'm just playin'. I'd recommend the Nikon Coolpix S6. It's got 6 Megapixels, 3x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom, auto focus, auto exposure, jpeg file format, lithium ion battery, 3 inch LCD, and onces you get the 1GB memory card you should be all set for $500.

hahaha. sorry for posting this guys. i was out with my camera this morning to take some pictures of my car so i can post some pix. unfortunately my camera was busted/broke/not working. i now am looking to get a new one and getting some recommendation from you guys. thanks for the rapid replies. i'm actually researching on each camera you guys are recommending. definitely not the 5,000 one, don't get me wrong. it's actually a good one buy way too much for me. i like taking stolen pix, so something that can take moving objects with picture quality is what i have in mind.

i took the following pics with my own Casio QV-R61 (detailed above). the first is a macro shot of our christmas tree of the last year and the second is a tree at a field path near our village. click to enlarge and you'll see the full resolution and quality (i had to scale it - otherwise i couldn't upload it).

Check my gallery photos. The write-ups note the camera used. You definitely don't need more than 5 megapixels unless you want to print high-quality photos larger than, say, 4 X 6 or 5 X 7. If you don't want to print largish photos, then get a 5 megapixel with the best lens possible. My old Minolta 5 megapixel falls into this category. Check out its web photos versus those from our Rebel. Pixels smixels for the web especially. Go for the lens.

Horses for courses - I wanted to replace a rather high end 35mm SLR that was given to me second hand.

I decided I wanted SLR 35mm film quality, but in a small and light package.

I opted for this little fella and have been really pleased with it:

Even though the last 'casio' anything I had was a dodgy digital watch
