Hello folks and diesel owners!
A rumor started here that the diesel euro 5 (or the best there is) has in it some biodiesel in a certain proportion. The logic seems to be that the proportion of biodiesel is in fact the thing that makes the fuel more environmental friendly, much more than the low sulfur factor. But as the gossip goes, some say that in fact it performs more poor than the euro4 diesel and that the biodiesel in the euro5 drops the cetanic rating.
Now the question is: how much of this do you think it's true? Euro 5 has anything to do with biodiesel and if yes how much?

Does Biodiesel have a lower cetane rating???
Lotus have developed a Biofuel Exige that runs on 85% Bio Ethanol and 15% Petrol. This makes it the most powerful Exige engine at 265bhp (from around 2 litres I think - and supercharged). This is because the BioEthanol has a higher octane rating than petrol.
I've just Googled Biodiesel, and it does, in fact have a higher cetane rating, so in theory, we can tune our cars to run on Biodiesel and get better performance. MMmmm

Sorry for the ignorance, but isn't Euro 5 an emission standard rather than a fuel grade?
