People tend to stop reading if the post is too long. Attention span for internet forum is short usually, I guess.

I mean a product that is invented by a company and then copied

Like the RPI exhausts, then some cheapo company comes out with TPI exhausts that claim the same everything but are obviously inferior

Lovely article.

There is a lot to be said about copying and mass production in our society in general. Someone spends massive amounts of energy researching and developing a unique product that works efficiently and another walks up and takes the idea as their own, jimmy-rigs it, or makes it faster and cheaper...quite often NOT better because the time to research was not spent. Craft comes with time, patience, and a great amount of diligence and attention to detail. When things are rushed or mass produced, you get a tweaked copy of something that was once in it's origination, a higher standard. Like a stamp, the ink fades with each stamp until parts of the stamp are no longer there but imagined to be.

It is obvious to me, knowing that there are different people in this industry who offer different types of filters, or intake and exhaust systems, that some people care less about quality and more about appearances. It's is even more obvious to me that people who care less about how much they have or what they look like that they are more concerned about their quality of life, and the overall performance of their cars.

Who am I to say whether a person should have quality? All I am saying is, why not have both - appearance, quality, AND at the best value possible.

Thank you PraiseTheLowerd! Well written and articulated. Keep em' coming!

lol well that would be ideal but it seems that many of the new threads are for rep spoilers, roof spoilers, wheels etc etc

ill look at your french jokes thread lol
While I have to agree with the general sadness of the situation for tuner companies, the fact is I have ACS replica spoilers (roof and trunk) mainly because I think anyone who spend $450 on each for the real thing is wasting $$$ - like buying an Armani Exchange t-shirt ($89 for a friggin tee doesn't make you stylish it makes you a fool)

Michele,
You guys at RPI are a little different, the scoops for instance are some of the most reasonable mods we can do - c'mon $99 isn't much. Even your exhausts are proven to provide good ROI, real gains over stock at a pretty affordable price. That equals value. Too many other tuner companies try to get the most $$$$ out of us instead of focusing on the value proposition.
