Thx Eric! It get better everyday. Have bought a house here in Houston, will be working from here for a while I guess. Kids have started new schools. Just need to wait for the water to receed so that the insurance adjusters can get in and start writing checks. As much as I love New Orleans, I just don't see how the city is going to recover from this. They are estimating that over 160,000 homes will have to be torn down in the city. I can't envision finding a contractor to rebuild in any reasonable time frame. And many of those house make up the tax base that financed the city through property taxes. New Orleans will need federal support for years to come I'm afraid...

160,000 houses - yikes. Looks like you'll be ok and I hope it continues to work out for you - I'm sure it won't for some.

Oh yes, I know how lucky I am. I have a job and the financial resources so that we can weather this. Many folks no longer have jobs or the financial ability to recover anytime soon. I know that I'm better off after Katrina than 90%+ of the folks from New Orleans.

Good to hear (see) from you. Can't help on a Houston dealer, but very glad to hear you have been able to establish some semblance of normalcy in your and your family's lives. Best of luck.

Actually I've heard it'll more likely be 350.000 houses, including the SuperDome...

Yes, the Superdome will likely come down. Had not heard the 350,000 figure, but given that the population of Orleans Parish (which is New Orleans) is only around 450,000, the 350,000 house figure likely includes all of the Gulf Coast, not just New Orleans. Either way, not pretty. But my 545 is sitting high and dry here in Houston! It's the small things that keep you going.

Ah, I see... Didn't thought about it, but you're right of course. The German media doesn't seem to know there are other cities around New Orleans... For them it's all New Orleans...

Welcome to Houston. Advantage BMW in downtown will see by appointment and will have loaner cars. Don't go to Momentum on the Southwest. No loaners if you didn't buy the car from them. There service stucks too. BMW of North Houston (on i-45) is OK.

If you go to Advantage BMW in Downtown, ask for Honza in service. He seems to know things around there.
