Not that I didn't already kinda know this, but someone on AVS Forum did a test between Comcast and FiOS in my area. Very detailed information, bit rates, screen shots, etc... Kinda hard not to be pissed when you see something like this...

Thanks for the link UURonL, interesting stuff. I forget, did you end up getting FiOS yet? How about your parents?
Comcast is a cable television provider (probably the largest in the USA) that uses coaxial cable.
FiOS is a service offered by Verizon, a large telecommunications provider (land line telephone, cellular, etc.) which delivers cable television via a fiber to the premises (FTTP) connection.
Using fiber allows for much more available bandwidth than coax but it is very expensive to install. Verizon is slowly rolling out FTTP across it's territory so there are many people who, for now, can't get the service.

what is FIOS? I use DTV for HD and it seems to be the best out there for quality and sound and selection of HD channels as well. thanks

Those screenshots look terrible for comcast. I have Cablevision HD and I can tell you that the picture quality is outstanding. I'm sure FiOS is better though, but they just need a better channel line-up before I make the switch.

My parents have had FiOS for a while - still doing well, but from time to time they need to reboot the cable box.
I found out that Verizon wired the apartments that share the same garage entrance for my condo's parking. The Verizon tech I spoke with was talking about wiring the adjacent building but I mistakenly thought he was referring to my building. I think our condo association is in negotiation with Verizon to get it installed in our building. Hopefully it'll happen soon.
I sent this to the local TV news - the reporter who handles consumer stuff. This seems like a good story to "uncover".

Keep us posted on what your local TV news does, if anything, with the story. I'd love to see how Comcast would handle such bad publicity. (Alternatively, I'd love to see Verizon pounce on this in their advertising -- isn't competition grand?
