In case some of you guys in the States don't know yet, a process of extraction of natural gas from underground reservoirs, called "hydro fracking" (or hydraulic fracturing) is a serious problem. Some government officials and lots of big business are intent on using Federal lands all over the USA for gas drilling, using a process call "hydraulic fracturing". There is absolutely no problem with the whole "energy independence" thing, but the process of hydro-fracking itself has been proven many times over to be harmful to our water supplies. For example, in the Catskill region of New York State, there is now a serious threat of contamination of the entire water supply. That underground water supply provides water for some 18 million people in and around the New York City.

I'm not extremely well versed scientifically, when it comes to this issue, but I'll put it in words I can understand. Basically, when they drill for gas, they have to go through the layers where the water supplies are contained. While going through the water, gas and other VERY HARMFUL chemicals get into the water supply. Which in turn causes all kinds of terminal illness - mostly cancers - in people, who use this water. This is a serious issue, and those politicians, who try to tell you it is a "totally safe process" have no clue what they are talking about. Sure, I'm not specialized in this myself, but simple cause and effect investigation easily reveals that every single are, where hydro-fracking is used, has an epidemic of terminal illness.

Please, please, please, help stop hydro-fracking all over. It isn't a matter of any kind of discussion, it is a fact that this will cause mass illness, if the water supply is contaminated. And don't think that your "Brita" will help - the chemicals used during fracking aren't going be filtered out. Cannot be filtered out.

Just FYI, I'm not some Prius-driving douchebag. I'm very sympathetic to big business and capitalism. I came to this country from Russia, where I grew up under Communist/Socialist regime, and I know from experience how bad that can turn for the people. But this is a health and survival issue - for you, for me, for our children. If we let these politicians and businesses take these lands, which are Federal - and that means, public, belonging to us, the people, there will be widespread devastation. Watch the documentary, see what people, who already are dealing with the repercussions of the drilling have to say. Watch it, make up your own mind. But please, remember, no amount of money - or energy - can justify the health impact of this process.
