How about prime lenses? I shot these with my 135mm/f2 L.
Wow! Gary, you just made this thread extremely entertaining! As for prime lenses, I feel that zooms give me a bit more versatility at this point without investing in multiple lenses. Sometime in the future I will start getting into primes. If I can take pictures like that with those models, I'll go out and by a 135mm f2/L right now!

Wow, this thread is getting better....
I think a big factor is ease of use and comfort. If you liked the way the 40D felt and worked, the 50D may be the better choice.
I am very comfortable with the Nikon interface for the D200 and would find it difficult to switch to a Canon.
Great pics all, BTW. Canon does have colors that pop right out of the box. Nikon defaults are more subtle, at least on the high end and expect the user to do PP to sharpen and "pop" it. Although, I normally default to "vivid" for my jpg settings.

As for which camera I feel most comfortable using, I would have to say Canon. That is because up till now, that is all I've used. However, I've demo-ed the Nikon D90 in the store extensively, and the Nikon is also easy to use. The Canon does have more vibrant colors right out of the box and Nikon is more subtle, but after processing through Photoshop or Aperture, pictures from both cameras come out looking pretty much the same in terms of color. As I posted earlier, I'm leaning towards the Canon, but a part of me is wanting to use this opportunity to try Nikon. But if I go the Nikon route, I guess there won't be any going back because of the investment in lenses and accessories~
Another point to fuel the indecision!

Guess what I just found out! The Canon 50D isn't supported by any Adobe products yet!
And when it is it will only be with CS4, Lightroom 2 and possibly Elements 7. So... for those of you like me, who are buying newly released cameras and use Photoshop, apparently CS2 and CS3 are only good for viewing your shots as JPEG. Get ready to dish out more $$$ for an upgrade or even more $$$$$ to buy the new software!
I use Aperture! I'd better find out if that supports the Canon 50D or the Nikon D90!

It's actually Adobe Camera RAW provides support for Photoshop/Lightoom/Bridge as a plugin. Unless I'm mistaken, the plugins are same throughtout different versions of photoshop.

Checked both the Apple and Adobe support lists and neither the Canon 50D or the Nikon D90 is listed. So I called Apple customer support and they told me that RAW support on Mac is available for the D90, but they are not sure if the 50D is yet. I also called Adobe and got a, "We will have to confirm and then respond to your query."

all software will have to add the new models to there list.
