Is the BMWCCA (Car Club) worth the fee? It's only $40. This E60 Forum seems to give me all the info I need and I don't think I need another monthly magazine that I throw away without reading...

Any benefits?

I think it's well worth it. Discount on parts at many dealers (10% at mine), and service at some. After 1 year of membership, you get a member rebate on new BMW purchase ($1,000 on E60)--wish I knew that a year before I bought my 545i! 2 magazines (1 national & 1 local) come monthly, I believe.

I'm also one of those who didn't find out about the rebate program until it was too late. Learning from this experience, I'm definitely joining - since there's always the possibility of another purchase in a few years.

Does one need to already own a BMW to join the club and (more importantly) get the discount?

The membership fee is definitely worth it. The monthly magazine is the best of its kind and is over 100 pages. The discounts (my dealer gives members 20% on over the counter parts and accessories and 15% for most service and the parts used therefor), rebates program, and events make it a no brainer. One of those events -- Octoberfest -- is a five day gathering filled with driving events, including driving school, autocrosses, rallies, and concours. This year's O'fest starts a week from today and will be in Greensboro, NC (it is at a different location each year), with driving school at Virginia International Raceway (VIR), which is an historic, world class road course that was completely restored about 7 years ago.

One important note -- to be eligible for the rebate (I got my $1,000 for my 2006 530xiT within 5 weeks of mailing in the form), you must be a member for the enitre one year period ending on the date you purchase the car.

It is definitely worth the $40. Some Dealers offer as much as 20% discount on Parts and Accessories in my area. Roundel is a great magazine if you are a enthusiast. If you are just a rider, then it probably not worth the $40.

Also, you usually automatically become a member in your local chapter, which may carry some additional benefits, such as club license plates, if offered by your state.

In Maryland, we can get organizational plates such as this:

So, considering all of the benefits, and the events and charities sponsored, yes it is worth it.

Joe

I just joined. You fine folks convinced me. Thanks for all your comments. I wish I was a member a year ago... the $1K rebate would have been nice. O well... maybe I'll get a free hat.

Besides the discount for future purchases and the parts discounts, as well as the monthly publications that people have already mentioned, you also get invited to great local get togethers and have the chance to meet BMW owners that drive something other than an E60.
