I was surprised to find out what an anti-Semite he was. ESPN's Jeremy Schaap, did a great story on the passing of Bobby Fischer and how unstable a man he was. His father Dick Schaap was a mentor to Bobby Fischer, helping him to become perhaps the greatest chess player ever. Eventually Fischer repaid him with anti-Semitic rants. Jeremy even interviewed Fischer last year I think about the falling out that Fischer had with his father and the man just kept lashing out against Jews, even though he was Jewish himself. I was also shocked to hear the remarks Fischer made just after 9-11 about how this kind of terror had finally come around to the USA and that he hoped eventually we were all completely wiped out! I just don't know what kind of demons tear away at a man to cause this kind of behavior. To say he was eccentric would be an understatement, to say he was crazy might be an overstatement, but somewhere in between lies the exact measure of one Bobby Fischer.
