Laser lights would have some huge advantages over current headlight technology and no, the biggest wouldn't be the ability to vaporize the guy coming at you when he won't turn down his high beams.

Pretty sweet. There's a lot of potential with laser headlights. With a proper lens and receiver it can also also contribute to collision avoidance since the reflected beam can be measured. With that, it can detect which object in front of a car is moving so it can be used as a HUD camera input as well. We have a robot in house (one of our robotics companys at work) that use lasers as eyes. They connect it to a monitor and we can see a realtime 3D view of the room the robot is in.

Before laser the led headlight are now the hot topic.
A quality local car mag tested the Audi A7 and M-B CLS led headlights and they where not as good as the Xenons.
