I'm going this Saturday for my first autocross ever. Has anybody been to one that can share tips on driving, tire pressure, safety..etc.. I know I don't stand a chance against those SMG models. Its for the experience and the chance to go fast without worrying about getting a ticket. Anybody else coming?

Having done this before the best tip is...
When you see an orange cone, Turn. When you see the next orange cone, Turn. When you see...

Kidding aside, Get there early and walk the track several times.
You'd be amazed at how many orange cones there are out there and how easy it is to get off course. Once you have the course memorized remember to keep it smooth.

If this is your first autocross event, the best advice is to forget about going fast, do what realtyman says, be smooth. Pay close attention to the instructors (assuming they're present). Smooth = fast. If you concentrate on fast, you won't be. If you concentrate on smooth, you'll end up being fast.

No matter how good you think you are, you will also find that you have developed habits over the years that need to be adjusted. Just practice and have fun!

One other thing. Don't worry about hitting a cone. It'll leave a nice black mark on the side of your car but it comes off pretty easilly.

I thought that you got so enthralled with the cones that you were stuck in a contruction zone clipping apexes.
