I have a new laptop which is one month old and there is this message coming up that my computer is infected. I'm like WTF, I just got this thing and it has the Mcafee anti-virus program. Is Mcafee any good? Thanks.
P.S.

i use norton anti-virus and it works great for me. there are many other programs available however. in addition to a anti-virus program, download & run the free version of "malwarebytes anti-malware". it is a awesome program that scans deeper into your hardrive and it will remove infected files that anti-virus programs cannot! my gf's computer had a program where her internet would take almost 5 minutes to open up and malware fixed it.

Don't forget that some "messages" claiming your computer is infected are bogus and are simply trying to bait you into clicking on something so that they will infect you with some sort of malware.
Was the message you received from McAfee or was it just some random pop-up?

Thanks for your feedbacks. I think you guys are right. This pop up is not from Mcafee.
On a side note, my wife has an Apple mac pro whatever notebook and it has never given her any problems.

The Mac shouldn't give you any problems, but when it does, brace for full-on warfare.. lol
As far as free anti-viruses go, you can see a list of the most popular free one's on download.com alongside stats/customer ratings/satisfaction reviews etc..

There is no such "best" anti-virus program.
Norton is known to create a lot of trouble, slowing down the computer. But then there ar users that have none issues with it...
Kaspersky is known to be one of the better ones. Very stable, not eating up much memory nor slowing down the computer too drastically. But then I tried to upgrade it and crashed four of five computers, two had to be formatted and the OS installed again...
You really never know these days...
