The E39 was always my favorite vehicle BMW made, I was in love with it when it was the flagship 5 series. I remember watching them drive on the freeway thinking to myself, "Wow, perfection."

When the E60 came out, I was not impressed one bit - but over the course of a few years I warmed up to it and now owning one, I feel silly that I ever resisted the change.

All that being said, I just got off the BMW USA site, and I am not impressed one bit with the new 7. IMO the tail reminds me of the new Lexus sedans - and the interior is bland (well appointed though).

I know this is a 5 series board, but speaking in generalities, the spyshots I have seen for the new 5 series remind me of a C-Class, and why is it that all the cars seem to have a smaller outward appearance these days? When the E60 first came out, the taper the vertical sidelines follow, made me think I was looking at a 3 series. Only when parked next to the (now microscopic looking) 3 Series can you see the true size of the 5.

I am a little saddened by how I feel about the immediate future of BMW vehicles because I am VERY happy with my E60 so far - and this board has only helped to perpetuate the momentum of excitement and enthusiasm I am finding for BMW. Having owned two Mercedes, and loving them, I thought I finally found a viable alternative with a sporty advantage. But now I doubt my next car (I go through car fast) will be a BMW. I will keep this car for now because not much out there catches my eye these days, the new A6 is even a little bland IMO. What happened to revolutionary styling?

Thanks for listening to (reading) my rant.

I feel you about the 7, looking like the Lexus, that's what I said too when I first and everytime I see it. About the new 5, I am not impressed too, I know BMW can do better.

You have pretty much summed up the way I feel about new cars these days. I am still warming up to the E60 styling although I recently upgraded from the E39 to the E60. The E39 was perfection but I wanted the newer technology and warranty. Once I get the aerodynamic package and summer tire package I think it will look much better. It does look kind of bland now.

The new 5 series and 7 series are getting even "blander"
