My Ride: Alpine White 2006 530Xi (SLD)
Working as a trader specializing in Index Futures all over the Global markets, which means often having to hedge currencies, does lead one to learn a lesson or two - even if that someone is as thick as yours truly. Now, I won't bore you with any technical - or much of fundamental, for that matter - analysis. I just want to share one of my recurring thoughts with you.
I see "Iran is an imminent threat" and "military option is not off the table", and I think "oil must be down". I see "America is becoming a Socialist country" and "Marxists are coming", and I think "buy Euro, cable, franc..." But then, every so often, when the news pause long enough for me to take a breather, I attempt to look at it all as a big picture and figure out what it is all about. And nothing will ever give you a better insight into any political, economic or even social events than the old saying "always follow the money".
If Russians "followed the money" when the "Great" Revolution was upon us (or "them"? I sure as heck wasn't there ) and traced the source of the funds that advanced Lenin to the forefront, would the revolution still have happened? Could the 70 years of disaster have been avoided? If we "followed the money" each and every time there is an election - anywhere on Earth, be it Tehran, or Moscow, or DC - what would be the result of that? Would we be able to fight the "evil" better behind the money as "the root of all evil" if we could simply trace where the money was coming from to make an evil possible?
I can't help but paraphrase Francisco D'anconia and say that money in and of itself is not evil - it is us, who make it evil. With that in mind, I'd like to urge you to think harder about the origin of the moneys that are "making the plays" on the current Global arena possible - it's history, it's potential, it's intentions, interests and possible effects thereof on your families. Knowledge is only one small step in actually having the strength to rule your own destiny, but it is a crucial step.
To quote yet another American Classic (yes, I know Ayn Rand was actually Russian, but I still consider her to be an American Classic) - the Easy Rider: "you can't tell someone who is not free that they aren't free".
