I'm staying overnight in Jo-Berg on 6/1/05. I have a flight to Bulawayo the next morning. We need to find a nice hotel, preferably at the airport. I have checked out some spots on the internet, but as you may know pictures can be deceiving so I'd like a locals advice. There is a Holiday Inn that looks o.k. but in the states they tend to be cheesy.

I'm also interested in how safe it is to go out at night. Over here I get looks like "are you nuts" when I mention S.A. It's only one night but after the 16 hour flight I'd be real interested in a high quality restaurant to catch a final meal and relax a bit. A quick taxi ride would be preferable.

Thanks again guys.

sorry for brief response but am replying from my cell phone, whilst on business trip in Cape Town.

there are 2 holliday inn's near the airport. the 1 I would not recommend, but the other is quite upmarket i'll get the details to you soon.

What I would rather suggest is for you to stay at the Ceasers Hotel and Casino resort which is about 3km's from the airport. very nice hotel and wide selection of restaurants.

in terms of safety, SA is like most countries, in that there are no~go areas, but there are also many interesting and whorthwhile places 2 visit, depending on what u are interested in, and in general very safe.1i

let me know if you need some ideas on this matter.

by the way, i was born in Zim, Bulawayo, so know it very well. are you going for business or holiday?

Ceasers sounds great, but I have a travel companion that has been many times and has heard it's gone downhill?? Or maybe it was the presidential?? I think the price was a bit steep as well (600+?) for a one nighter.

The glass fronted Holiday Inn was the one I thought looked acceptable. Local restaurant advice would be appreciated.

Bulawayo----We are actually going to Glengarry to a game ranch for 10 days, then on to Vic Falls for one night before heading back to Jo-Berg-NY-Boston.

I hear the situation in Zim is not the best (political) and can also be a bit unsafe. We will not be in Bulaway long and hopefully the outskirts (Glengarry) are as safe as I'm told

Thanks, John.

surprised to hear that about ceasers...will enquire further.
The best restaurants are in Sandton, 20 min drive from the airport.
What type of cuisine do you prefer?
