Got my first ticket in over 20 years earlier this year, for doing 84 on Hwy 85 (which was the prevailing speed, I just happened to be idiot at the end of the line of traffic ). To ad insult to injury, I wasn't even in my Porsche, as I was headed to the airport for vacation in my Pilot!

Long story short - I did traffic school, and did it online. Cost me about $320, but it stays off the driving record. If you can do traffic school, that's probably easier than trying to fight it, but in many cases a decent traffic attorney can work wonders. If it were me, I'd save the attorney for another time and take this one on the chin.

i'd assume 320 was before they doubled the rate?
if so, then mine's gonna be in 600-700 range...

+1 Do the traffic school. You are eligible as long as you haven't done traffic school in the last 18 months. Which means you should be fine. Do the school, pay the fine (which will probably be near what ^^^Swajames paid) and be done with it.
I have been driving for 20 years, got my first speeding ticket ever in 2004, then got 2 more within 2 years - amazing how these things happen. Good luck.

Here in Chicago, anything over 20 over speed limit is reckless driving and it is an automatic 1 month license suspension.

Wow, sometimes it is an advantage to live here in redneck land...there are two tiers of tickets in Idaho, an Infraction, with all court costs is $52.00 and no reports to the insurance company. A misdemeanor, $102.50, points and insurance notification. In no case is their a graduated scale for increasing the fine based on speed. So 1 mph is the same as 100.

I agree with my learned college on taking the arrow on this one, and saving the attorney for when things get really tight.

Ugh.

Like they say, timing is everything.

Sounds like traffic school is the way to go.
