Not quite, most people think years that end in 10 are the beginning of the decade. This is false, since there has never been a year 0 then the beginning of each decade MUST end in 1 - not 0. So he is correct in the year, the 12 hours thing however......................
But then I am on US pacific time - still have a little less than 22 hours to go

I know what you're getting at, with the whole year 1 vs year 0 thing. The decade question is entirely different though. We're not measuring how many years have passed since something happened, we're talking about an increase in the second decimal digit from the right signifies a new decade.

I think we all agree that the 80s were from 1/1/1980 to 12/31/1989, and the 90s were from 1/1/1990 to 12/31/1999 (the clue is in the bold digit). It maybe argued that 12/31/1999 wasn't "technically" the end of the millenium because the millenium started with year 1, but it's undeniable that it *was* the end of the nineties. The noughties started the next day 1/1/2000 and ended the decade on 12/31/2009, after 10 years. We've been in the ones for a year now.

Even now, many hours after the thread started, it's still not yet 12 hours to go for someone in New Jersey

OMG ... I feel so badly that I may have (with my less than draconian mind) upset the entire universe and (woe is me) probably reversed global warming, too!

If it's OK with those in the know, can I still consider the end of the past ten years and start counting at 11 ? I promise not to tinker with any other laws of the universe or anything like that.

PLEEEEZE I AM BEGGING HUMBLY ...

On the other hand, for those of us on the right coast, let the count-down begin

Now ya'all be very careful out there!
