How long does it take your car to go to sleep ?
Mine takes one hour to go to the sleep mode - time for the amber light next to "P" ( parking ) to go off.
Is this normal ?

I'm thinking it's normal (but will wait for others to chime in with more information). From what I remember reading, the car will start to sleep sometime after 16 minutes or so but doesn't go into "full sleep mode" for about 70 minutes. Keep in mind that in order for the car to sleep at all, it must be off and nothing can be "touched" (no opening of the trunk or doors, no pressing any buttons on the key fob, etc.) If something is touched, the timer starts all over again...

mine takes 16 minutes including the gear light indicator going off.

the funny thing is i have audio installed in my boot together with 2 little ventilation fans and neon lights.

with my boot opened, the ventilation fan and neon lights go off after approx 1.5 - 2minutes but if i press any button on the key, it comes back on again for another 1.5 - 2minutes.

its constantly on though if the car is running.

i think an hour is way too long... my indicator is the start/stop button and it goes off within a minute or 2. like rudy said, these cars start the sleep mode after 16 minutes and into full sleep mode after 70 minutes. have you installed any aftermarket electronics and are you getting any "increase battery discharge" message?

I am assuming you already know that, but in case you don't, you need to lock the doors for the car to go into full sleep mode, including inside your garage. Are you locking the doors and still observe this long delay?

These cars never really sleep, to much electronics and system monitoring going on.

Mine typically takes 45 minutes with the doors unlocked...although it is not 'fully asleep'

With the doors locked, it happens in under 5 minutes.

Several systems stay monitored even if 'full sleep mode'....i.e. security and parts of the i-drive.

The little light on my gear shift rarely if ever goes out....it's lit up every time I see it.

I've found a warm glass of milk helps.

I think you may be working from some bad information. The car doesn't go into sleep mode in 5 minutes with the doors locked and the light on the gear shift is an indicator of the car's sleep status. If the light is on, the car isn't sleeping...

I really couldn't give a answer to this. The car seems to decide these things for itself.

Sometimes the shifters "P" light stays on after shutting the car down, sometimes not,
sometimes the "blowers" seems to be on for ever, sometimes not,
sometimes the iDrive screen awakes a bit late (in the winter), sometimes not.
