When I leave the headlight command on AUTO, the lights are always ON, even when it's sunny ! Is my captor out of order, or is it possible to set it less sensitive ??

There is a dealer adjustment or the sensor could be faulty... Either way you'll have to visit your dealer...

There is an but it seems like the lights are still pretty unpredictable. (I think BMW has attempted to address the issue in CIP updates.)

One thing I've begun to wonder about is whether or not there is really something wrong. In the old days (like Cadillac, etc.), automatic headlights would come on only when dark. I'm now thinking that BMW is incorporating the postition of the sun into the programming logic since, at least with my software version (20.02), the lights seem to work pretty accurately even though they do come on in bright sunlight -- it's just that they come on when the sun is lower in the sky.

Technically, when the sun is low in the sky, it is safer (and appropriate) to have the headlights on to provide other drivers better visibility of your car.

Hi Oliver, see it with your dealer, strange. The Black Mamba is black so even in the city when sun is shining I use the lights mostly on auto, but sometimes also in normal (manual always on mode) to be better seen...

But the auto switch function works perfectly, this was spec. developed for us doing a lot of tunnels, you do not have to switch it yourself. Good luck!

My auto headlights are always on as well. I also notice that there are many cars on street also have xenon lights on during daylight, so not sure if they deliberately left on or a defect. I plan to ask the dealer about this on the first service visit.
Oliver, please keep us posted on how it turns out after your dealership visit.

Check the Search function. But after my CIP update, they come on less, but still are on, first thing in the morning, driving into direct low angle sun! The sensor picks up UV light, which tends to scatter (why they don'[t trigger in fog). To make them stay OFF longer, the sensitivity has to be increased.

In raising this issue with my Service Adv the other day when it went in, he implied that the update should have taken care of it...sounding like any further adjustment may not be available. But, he said he would check on it; so we'll see when I get my car back if there is any adjustment left.

The dealer can adjust the sensitivity I believe, but before booking it in it might be worth checking under Vehicle settings > Lighting (I think that's right...) as there is an option in there somewhere to have the lights permanently on. I activated this during the winter months, and it means that in the 'Auto' position the lights are *always* on. Switching to the 'Off' position over-rides the I-Drive 'always on' setting though...

I took my car to the dealer because I noticed the headlights were not turning during cornering....found out that this feature only works when the headlight switch is in the "auto" position.
