Hi,

Does anybody have any instructions on how to remove the rear parcel shelf from inside the car? I am thinking about mounting one or two 12" shallow depth subwoofers underneath it - I am positive there is enough room as the insulation foam feels pretty think. I have found some Pioneer 12" subs that are 8.3cm deep. But I need to remove the parcel shelf to check

Whilst on the topic - does anybody have any thoughts on how a sub mounted _inside_ the parcel shelf would sound? I can't see that it would be any worse than having a sub mounted in the boot in a box with all that insulation... or any worse than having an 8" non-enclosed sub mounted under the seat like the standard BMW setup. I wasn't planning on cutting in to the shelf or adding a grill, just mounting it inside the parcel shelf stealth-style.

Also, if I can get under the shelf, I can fit component speakers that are larger than the normal 4" ones by mounting them underneath the shelf rather than sitting "on top" like the standard ones.

So, back to the original question - how can I get the shelf out Thanks!

From what I can tell, it's a royal pain to remove the shelf.

First, take a quick look at this thread since there is a photo that may let you see what you're looking for:

If that thread isn't enough to either move you forward or discourage you completely, take a look at this document:
1_replacing_trim_for_rear_parcel_shelf.pdf

The instructions above are very complex with many preliminary tasks on top of preliminary tasks. I don't have the time to compile each and every step at this time but suffice it to say that you have to remove the back seat (backrest) and then remove the interior c-pillar trim. There are other minor things to do but you get the idea...

Thanks Rudy. In a word - no, forget that, the amp can sit in the boot and the subs are going under the seats

Thanks very much for looking it up for me!!

You're welcome -- and thanks for saving me the time it would've taken to compile all those crazy preliminary tasks!

Hi Rudy, thanks for posting this, I need to remove the rear shelf and I couldn't find instructions anywhere. This is just what I needed. (I've found instructions on how to remove the rear seat already)

I'm just fitting a manual rear blind [retrofit no. 51 46 0 394 323] and I need to get access under the shelf to bolt the blind to it. The instructions call for removing the shelf altogether, but there was no detail on how to do this.

They also call for removing the C pillar trim [TIS no. 51 43 255] for which I have no instructions. If you have them could you post them here for me It would be a great help to me. Please!
