Look in the Owner's Manual! It will be on the driver's side (left for me, right for you) underneath the cabin air intake microfilter. You need to remove stuff to get to it. However, if it's extremely low (such that iDrive indicates that it is low), you probably either have a leak or need to replace your pads. You should not fill it unnecessarily because when you replace the pads it will overlfow when the the caliper pistons are compressed.

You are 100% correct ! You never have to add fluid if no leaks.

To access the brake fluid reservoir located under the Cabin Air Filter Left housing.

1. Lift(the one I'm pointing at) and slide to the right to remove.

2. Remove filter housing.

3. Rotate CCW.

remove this rubber piece.

4. Lift rubber seal and move aside.

5. Unscrew torx screw.

6. Lift and voila!

Use DOT 4 Brake fluid.

If its a 2006 model then you should be up for a break fluid flash soon. This is a warranty item performed every 2 yrs. Check your iDrive.

+1.

Change the brake fluids every second year at BMW Service.

Money saved in the lung run.

No not mess with the brakes in any way if you're not a pro.
