This is to everyone out there with gear problems:

I recently bought my 545i and noticed that in certain gears the car would "jerk" like all of you; since I am still under warranty I took it to the dealership. They first reset the tranny, it did not work. My boyfriend and I test drove the car with the technician and the shop foreman and duplicated the jerking motion in different drive modes (D, DS & M). We left the car there, got a loaner and told them to call only when the car was fixed! Well, it is fixed and it drives like a dream! THEY REPLACED THE MECHATRONICS MODULE, the invoice reads: "it had faulty shorts for EGS, after replacement of mechatronics I programmed and encoded complete vehicle including CAS. I cleared all adaptations in vehicle and re-teached adaptation values." In other words, they replaced the transmission module.
I just thought that all of you should know what to look for since I was afraid that I had a lemon in my hands...

Good luck

PS: I hope this will help some US owners!

Hey Val, welcome aboard. I live in Coconut Creek so we are neighbors. Just bought my '04 545i about two months ago, so far drives like a dream and no problems. Thanks for the info. Maybe I will see you on '95 or the turnpike one day. I'll be in the left lane haulin' ass

Hello Neighbor,
Thanks for the welcome! By the way, I'll be right behind you most likely, that's my driving lane! I am still getting situated in the forum and updating my profile and all will send you some pics once I upload. the strange thing is that I bought my car on Nov 1, 2008 and it went to the shop for some custom fitting and adjustments along with the tranny problem and I just got my car back Tuesday night. I am now learning all that beast can do...and I am in LOVE!!

Yea my car had the jerk going from 5th - 6th gear. My dealer did the same as your dealer. Reset transmission.... didn't work of course.
So I drove it back and they I guess they are going to do the same thing.
