I have a Kenwood KAC-749S and an old Kicker Comp VR 12" sub sitting in my closet. Will that sub fit into that JL box and will my amp be sufficient enough to power it? How much for just the box?

I don't see why it wouldn't fit, has to be a standard 12" sub cutout. The question is do they even sell the box separately?

I am in the same position, I have an amp and Infinity 12" sub lying around, would like to know what the box cost.

Your sub should work fine. CompVR is a good "budget" sub. It'll get plenty loud, it's efficient, and it's cheap. But, its sound quality isn't anything to write home about. We install them all day at the shop, but these days most our customers just want to get loud for cheap. If you listen to a lot of rap/hip hop, the CVR12 is decent. But, if you throw anything else at it, it won't perform too well.

The W6v2 isn't the cheapest sub on the market, but it's nowhere near the most expensive either. Have you listened to alpinewhite or ImSort0fABigDeal's car? The W6v2 is one amazing little sub.

Your amp wouldn't work so well since it's a 4-channel. Ideally you want either a 2-channel amp (bridged to 1 channel) or a mono amp to power your sub(s). If you bridged your 4-channel amp to 2 channels, you could use each channel to power each of the sub's dual voice coils. But, at that point your sub will be way under-powered. You'd probably be feeding your sub about a 100 watts total, when it's rated at 400 watts RMS. Since you're under-powering the sub, you'd likely get a lot of distortion especially at higher volumes. Eventually, this will cause the sub to blow--not to mention your bass will sound like ass.

If you kept your CVR12 sub, the Kicker ZX400.1 is a solid amp to power it:

JL doesn't offer the enclosure alone--just as a loaded box. I can probably arrange to have the enclosure alone. Buying the package will always be cheaper. By separating the two, the enclosure alone would come out to $450ish.

1) How is this box fastened to the car?

2) What would do you do with the stock under seat subs? Do they stay connected to support the front speakers or to you just disconnect them?

3) Has anyone on this forum installed these? any reviews?

4) How much to ship to Ipswich, MA 01938?

1) You'd remove the carpeted liner from the car and replace it with this enclosure. The enclosure is then pressure-fitted, then bolted into place.

2) I wouldn't recommend disconnecting the OEM underseat subs. Those little speakers fill in a big gap between the mids and subs.

3) I doubt anyone on the board has installed one yet--they're that new.

4) Since I don't have the exact weight yet, I'm not able to give you an exact shipping cost. It'll ship from 92704, so shipping to you would be roughly $35-$45.

Where would you get the output from the OEM head unit to tie in the to the amp input?

I could probably search for that answer...

I might be interested. I have a compartment I assume I wold remove on that side of the trunk.

I would also like the status of this. I'd like to see the price around 600 bucks shipped. But I can be cheap sometimes. Not sure what the sub alone goes for would be guessing about 300 bucks retail??? so another 300 buck for the enclosure is fair enough.
