It really doesnt work that way guys. Some of you (vegastrash, etc.) have been here and saw some of our R&D in progress and you really cant assume in these cases. We measure intake air temps, flow and do all the designs on the dyno. Every change in angle, cut, etc. will affect how the air goes into the engine, effecting the hp output. We tried the "smooth" approach and it does NOT work. I cant really explain how or what type of approach we take in compressing the air going into the intake duct since there are quite a few copycats out there already.
thanks, really appreciate your time responding to our questions! also, one last question someone else had posted about rain and snow. i understand the real improvement comes 70+ miles, but i dont think we'll be traveling that fast during those condition so can we assume water will have limited induction thru lower speeds? if anything, the filter will absorb most of the water/moisture and will not damage any air sensors or the engine?

please let us know when the pre-550 is available

thanks again

There shouldnt be any problems at all. You have to go at VERY fast speeds to bring up enough pressure to move water across a 90 degree bend into the air ducting, then another 90 degree bend straight back, then another 90 upwards through a hold 2 3/4"+. The only way would be if the ductin was submerged in water. A few months back, we did a demonstration by washing a car that had the scoops while it was running. It had no problems at all and the filter was bone dry.

Thanks for the orders guys. Scoops are running out so those of you on the list should order from the link.

http://shoprpi.com/index.php?cPath=21_22_26_35

Here are also the installation instructions for the 550. 530, 545 guys would follow the same instructions for the M5. The 550 scoops are slightly different.

Yep those are the ones for the 545, the dual scoop setup is if you have the dinan cai which sucks air from both sides.
I am running the single scoop with stock air intake + k&n filer - charcoal filter.
If you have the Dinan intakes and want dual scoops, you would buy the M5 set.

Just got test fitted today for 08 LCI 550i. You can tell it makes a big difference! Seems faster and more responsive
on the freeway! My quad exhaust seems a bit louder can it be the more air?

Awesome Tom! Which intake do you have - stock OEM or aftermarket?
