Plenty of fault codes. Cant drive at all
Twice this winter after using remote climate my car has broke down due to several fault codes, 8-15 in display. But when checking on computer atleast a hundred. From drivetrain, to seat belts and everything in between.
Car starts but shift stick is dead. No light. Cant drive.
last, and first time, when i got it to the mechanic, he just managed to erase all fault codes and good to go. This time I tried to erase with a simple computer(fault checker iPad of some sort) but fault codes kept coming back.
Were switching batteries when Im transporting the car to a workshop next. The backup battery was bad before these problems ( for sos-calls i think) and were also trying replacing the main start battery. Im just afraid its a Control unit of some sort?
Anyone have any similar experience?

How old is the main battery. Have the voltage been tested on the alternator and battery tested? These would be my first troubleshooting steps. The first indicator was the first time it happened but it was ignored and now you can't move the car. If you need to take it to a mechanic I wouldn't take it to the one that cleared the codes and let you leave without troubleshooting why it happened because it was bound to happen again. These cars don't go crazy for no reason. There's always a reason why

Car didnt move the first time, we had to tow it that time aswell.
Voltage looks fine. Maybe a bit high when engine is running, about 15V. Dont know if This is a problem. Battery could be as old as the car for all i know.
Good mechanics are hard to find in this region. Only one authorized BMW service center and theyre horrible.
Issue only seems to occur when using remote preheating. And car starts fine, this baffles me.
See Is My Battery Bad? - 5Series.net - Forums. Also, read the battery charge status and charge status histogram.
So, the car did undergo some testing and we even changed the main battery to a new one. Alternator and voltage regulator was also checked with no issues found. Car worked fine for awhile. Until it didnt. Now all of a sudden it had the same problem again.
This time i didnt use the pre-heater.
It has happened on three occasions. All three times after a night parked. Fault log mentions about 100-150 faults when it happens. Drivetrain fault seems to be the main issue. On all three occasions we cant even drive it in limp mode since it wont let us shift.

This issue was back in February with no response back on solution/continued problem posted until today. Forums are here to help the poster and others. that is done by members responding to the OP and the OP responding when they think the problem is fixed explaining the solution so others can use that information. Too many dead posts across forums.
This post is closed and if you'd like continued help create a new post and come back with solution once issue is resolved or at least give thanks to the ones that to the time to assist you with your problem.
