Default 2019 530i question on Drive Recorder and OTA

New to the forum, long time BMW guy but new to the G30.

My wife had a 2020 X5 that had remote update as an option on the idrive. Does the 2019 G30 have it? it is missing on the idrive--should it be there?

Also I do NOT have BMW recorder but i have Live Cockpit (the all digital one) and i have the 3D surround cameras. Should i have BMW recorder? is it an update i can get? i called genius and they had me reboot the system and update the apps option to no luck. i really want this vs an external camera and the dealer is unsure.

thanks

How does the dealership not know. Decode your VIN to see what options you have. Also, you may need an iLevel update to bring the option selection to the iDrive or just flash the system.

Sean, should the 2019 have remote update on the menu? the VIN lookup will not tell me that....

RSU was not available for the G30 until the LCI. You have a pre-LCI that didn't come with the equipment necessary for RSU (ID7 Lite). Your only option is to physically update your software either through BMW, ESYS/ISTA (at home) or Bluetooth firmware on the BMW site via USB. I don't know what you're trying to update so I listed the options available

Sean perfect rely--thank you. i wanted the idrive updated to see if i can get Drive Recorder which i should be able to have based on the car's hardware options. But it is not listed. And there are no USB updates as it says based on my VIN that the car should update wirelessly --which i think is not accurate either.

athough i cannot find Cockpit Live Professional in my build (now that I look again), but the screen is fully digitial, just like my X5 except the display does not have the little camera in the top middle of the instrument cluster that is looking at me (like the X5 did) and i do not get vehicle graphics in the middle of the display like i did in the X5 (however the X5 did not have a HUD like this one does)

The USB option never updated the iDrive software. It only updated the bluetooth and modem firmware to keep up with phone updates. To update your iDrive you need to flash an update either via ESYS/ISTA at home or going into the dealership with an issue and paying for it. Personally I would flash it at home and see what happens. It's easy to do and takes about an hour. This way you'd have everything updated beyond what the site would put out for updates.
