What is the difference between the standard

What is the difference between the standard warranty and included maintenance?
The standard warranty covers anything that breaks or doesn't work right during the warranty period which is normally 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
Maintenance which is actually called "scheduled maintenance" covers service needs that your car actually asks for. For example, the E60 has the built-in capability of knowing when it's ready for an oil change, brake fluid, etc. If you want an oil change sooner than the car asks for, this is not covered under this plan so you will need to pay for it on your own.

The UK warranty is 3 years/60,000 miles
The extended maintenance pack (covering scheduled servicing/oil, brake pads/discs and wiper blades - up to 4 sets) is available at a cost of ?1000. This covers a period of 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever is soonest.

browllem, 3 yr/60,000 miles! what does a driver average in the UK? most warranties here in the US assume average drivers hit 12,000 miles a year, hence a typical 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty on most cars. 3/60,000 almost seems to make the milage aspect useless and effectively make it a just 3 yr warranty. Unfortunately, most of my experiences in the UK are in or around London, where I would think driver don't put too many miles on cars. Maybe I'm just exposing myself as ignorrant American again!

kscarrol, You're right the average is about 12,000 in the UK as well.
It's handy for me - I'll drive about 20-25,000 per year.
I think the 60K miles figure has grown up out of "warranty wars" here in Europe, for want of a better phrase. 3yr/60K is now standard on most new vehicles, and some of manufactures like Hyundai are starting to push it even further with 5 year warranties!

What about wear items such as brakes and rotors that may wear faster than the recommeded replacement? Ie. the % remaining after say 9000 miles is less than the tolerance, is that covered?

You can however blame it on BMW and they MIGHT change it under warranty. Course thats quite difficult to do.
