I'm absolutely sure, tried it a few times. My car is brand new, 04/2008 - maybe you should get your SW updated and then it will work.
Note though, that you need to hold the switch in the upper position for like 4-5 seconds or so and then the "bars" of the ACC disappear and only the selected speed stays on the display.
Are you talking about the switch the controls the following distance? Are you sure the bars aren't disappearing because you're pressing the accelerator pedal slightly?

Anyone else able to confirm this??

Interesting. I'll try it on my way home tonight. It would be great if it were true - I'd love the option of using the "active" component when I wanted to. My car is an '07.

Yupp, it's sure. The distance is set on the smallest distance, there're no cars around just me and the road - I push the distance selector switch upwards for a few seconds and the last bar disappears. If there was a car ahead and it was already tracked by the radar the yellow car symbol disappears too from both the HUD and dashboard indicator.

This clearly does not work on my car -- it must be a country specific thing or possibly (hopefully) a software improvement.

Could one of you guys post a picture of your ACC sensor on the front of your car (would like to see one on a mtech bumper)

Here's a shot of my car before they did the PDI (the ACC "dome" is on the left side of the pic, the night vision camera is on the right):

Here's a closer shot:

I have long been puzzled (and yes, ) when my distance bars flash off and on at any time they take a notion. I have had the dealer look into this twice and they cannot duplicate it.

Took a long trip this past ten days and found what Rudy is referring to...

I had a habit of resting my foot on the throttle pedal, very lightly. That will indeed turn off the distance bars.

Friday, the car will go in to get a new instrument cluster (unrelated) and I plan to teach them how to make the distance bars behave erratically.

Resting your foot on the pedal will turn the distance bars off (and prevent the car from slowing or stopping on it's own.) This is working as designed so I don't think your dealer will be able to do anything about it. Actually, this feature is a handy way to temporarily override the stop and go and allow the car to get closer to the car in front of you -- just be ready for the car to hit the brakes hard if you come off the gas after an override...
