I think it's because the person has halogen, that's why he wants his to be brighter.
Also, your last sentence is not factual. The bulb in there, I don't know if it's halogen or LED, but either one, a bright LED replacement should theoretically give off less heat if the stock is halogen (for sure), or slight increase if stock is LED. The plastic don't melt so easily, they have much higher melting point than you are suggesting.

But it might have been a halogen problem. The LED's are much, much cooler than halogens.
But all lights are designed for something - not anything.

You sure John? I don't think they are built in. I had a f10 xenon headlight with the LED units taken off. The LED units are removable they sell replacement LED units.

I didn't realize that there were any USA F10s without the new (and sufficiently bright) angel eyes. Interesting...
Since you brought it up, I have to add that I really think the Audi and Mercedes LED DRLs look bad. I'm just not into the "string of pearls" look of multiple LEDs lined up next to each other. Hopefully BMW will never use that type of design -- the way they do it now is far superior!

Xenons are standard on all but 528s in US, I believe.

I know I am not helping to answer the quesiton of the OP but in my eyes the DRLs are bright enough. In fact, the x-mas lighting you can find on audi and mercedes is something everyone will be copying (EU ruling that as of feb 2011 all car manufactured must have a efficient DRL) - you can even see the LED x-mas lighting on the new KIA Sportage. But our DRLs from BMW are special and unique - don't know anyone who has angel eyes as a DRL..
