Somehow I doubt that, the tune shown here has 553 LbFt (749 nm), and there is a new tune already that is producing 575 LbFt (779 nm). Not bad at all really. I doubt the SMG could withstand much more for any extended period as well.

Besides, you can always opt for the manual tranny instead if it's a concern.

Its a manufacturer limitation from Getrag, the developer of the DCT for bmw: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/f10...limit-dct.html

Yep, I saw that post. It seems most are evenly split between if it's a real hard limit or not. Either way 700nm exceeds what the current SMG can handle as well since the F10 M5 is 680nm stock and E60 is 520nm stock - I highly doubt the SMG can handle 700nm any better.

Here's a question: If it's true that the transmission in the new M5 can not handle more than 700nm of torque, then why would they have put a more stout transmission in the Tri-turbo Diesel? CLICKY!!!!
546 lb ft = 740 nm, seems silly the M division would short change the M5 and BMW would let a Diesel be capable of more.

The M5 has the DCT, but the m550D has the 8speed auto which can handle the torque...The 550d is also AWD, and remember, this car IS from M! they are highlighting diesel and its probably due to the restrictions in Europe and better efficiency of the diesel vs the M5 which will be not much better than the S85 in the real world.
